Energy ministers from Azerbaijan, Türkiye attend Igdir-Nakhchivan gas pipeline launch ceremony

The Energy Ministers of Azerbaijan and Türkiye have arrived in Igdir to attend the inauguration of the gas pipeline to Nakhchivan, Türkiye’s Energy and Natural Resources Minister Alparslan Bayraktar shared the footage on X, AzVision.az reports.

"We are in the border city of Igdir with Azerbaijan's Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov for the opening ceremony of the Igdir-Nakhchivan gas pipeline.

We started our program with a visit to the governor's office, where we discussed the city's role in this strategic project and Igdir’s energy needs with Governor Erkan Turan," Bayraktar wrote.

The official foundation-laying ceremony for the pipeline took place on September 25, 2023.

The 97.5-kilometer pipeline stretches from Igdir in Türkiye to the Sadarak district of Azerbaijan, with 80 kilometers in Türkiye and 17.5 kilometers in Azerbaijan. The pipeline will transport 2 million cubic meters of gas daily, or 730 million cubic meters annually. This fully meets Nakhchivan’s current gas needs, and in the future, its capacity can be more than doubled, offering further development opportunities for the region.
